Winthrop, WA

Exiting the North Cascades NP east toward the Methow Valley, and the town of  Winthrop offered the needed facilities and was just about the right driving time.  Winthrop is a bit of a tourist destination with its western theme, but The Virginian, the first Western Novel, was inspired by a visit to Winthrop – giving it the credentials for its theme.

The businesses along the main strip have all been refaced to resemble that old-west theme.

However the Shafer Museum just up the hill has all the authentic credentials that justify this Western Theme Town.

This was just an overnight stop on the way to Chelan ….
