It's been very quiet in our corner for the past couple weeks. Not much really blog worthy.
Our biggest adventure was a attending the Holiday Celebration presented at The Welk in Escondido.
The Welk Theater at Lawrence Welk Village continues to draw top talent.
The show was a very high energy performance of holiday classics, including Feliz Navidad with Folkloric dance and a rap version Silent Night. We both enjoyed show and the holiday decorations in the lobby.
A one and a two …
We continue to bike ride along Mission Bay and into Pacific Beach. Saturday we rode into PB for the annual Christmas parade. The Mission Bay High School provided the only band this year.
The LoRiders from South Bay put on a show with their hydraulic antics
.and beautiful rides
and restored classics
The Old Mission Bay Athletic Club (OMBAC) Fire Department is present at most local events.
No holiday parade would be complete without Santa!
In responses to a comment left by Jim, I challenged myself a couple blogs ago to make a rattle out of a Coyote Gourd, as that's all their good for.
Rather than wait weeks for it to dry I used the kitchen oven (don't tell Fran)
A native Kumeyaay shaman would use a sharp rock, but …
The seeds are the only part of the gourd that is edible, although there are a lot of seeds, it's defiantly an acquired taste!
Yes that is a Julian Pie tin holding the seeds :)
I put the dried seeds back in the gourd. And used a hot glue gun to secure the gourd to my pine branch. A Kumeyaay craftsman would make one as show in this YouTube video HERE.
We always seem to have a puzzle on the puzzle table.
Wishing all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And that’s all for now, we'll be heading back to Borrego for their New Year festivities.
I found so many parts of this post interesting. Those LoRiders, so cool! Those restored cars, so cooler! And the gourd drying, I sure hope Fran does not read your posts!
ReplyDeleteThe amount of attention placed into the LoRiders is amazing. The air brushed paint jobs must cost a fortune!
DeleteI remember listening to the Lawrence Welk show as my folks watched every Saturday night.
ReplyDeleteAll those cars are unique in their own way.
Be Safe and Enjoy your adventures.
It's about time.
Good morning Rick. We too watched the Lawrence Welk Show and have seen some of those performers at The Welk. We took Fran's mother to see the Lennon Sisters there.
DeleteHappy Holidays to you and Fran. I'm sorry we'll just miss you here in Borrego Springs! Enjoy the New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi - and all the best to you and Dave during the holidays. Sorry the timing did not work out, but you have a freezer full of pie! We'll get one when we head out for the New Year festivities
DeleteLove seeing everyone in shirt sleeves for the outdoor festivities :-) We're enjoying the same here in AZ so far. Good job on the rattle! Many of our galleries have gourd-art that is stunning. Maybe your next project?? Happy Holidays to you and Fran!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Jodee! - I have seen some beautiful gourd artwork in places like our Old Town. I'm no artist but now I'm curious to check one out to see if there's a made in China sticker on the bottom ;)
DeleteMerry Christmas! and Best wishes to you and Bill and all of your clan.
Hi Jeff! And Merry Christmas to you and Fran. Oh the memories once again flooded my brain. I sat with my grandmother and watched the Lawrence Welk show. I was around 10 to 12 and loved the dancers and the bubbles! Now that’s what I call a parade…love those cars on those tiny little wheels and tires. I had no idea you could dry out a gourd in the oven. That’s way cool.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Gay! We too have memories of the Lawrence Welk TV Show, it was always a family gathering in the Livingroom. To dry out the gourd I left the door slightly open and a very low heat so it would not cook.
DeleteMerry Christmas to you and Joe, along with Best Wishes for the coming year
