The Lockdown Continues - What we’re doing

This year the second week of January is proof San Diego is Americas Finest City!  With clear skies and temps in the mid-70s – low-80s we just had to ignore the Stay-at-Home orders!

The morning found us unloading our bikes at Liberty Station for a ride to the Coronado Ferry Terminal.

We were the only two on the deck of the Convention Center Ferry to the Coronado Ferry Landing.

.

The Big Bay is sparkling in the sunshine.  And the views of Downtown are outstanding.

We usually stop at the Hotel del Coronado.  And continue the ride along the ocean.

Typically we ride north from The Del among the tree shaded lanes and fancy homes.  However, we’ve timed a –1.4 tide perfectly and decide to ride south to see if the tide is low enough to see any of the SS Monte Carlo shipwreck.  I last saw the Monte Carlo with a –2.1 tide in 2016, that blog can be viewed HERE.

.

A bountiful clear day but no sign of the Monte Carlo.

About once a week we ride our bikes to the Pacific Beach Library to pick up or return books.  We’ll be doing this ride again tomorrow as Fran and I have 3 books ready now, 2 in transit and 21 holds that have yet to be fulfilled.  The ride around Mission Bay is always a pleasure.

.

The surf on the ocean remains high.  Waves have damage the OB Pier and breached the PB Boardwalk.

We’re still doing jigsaw puzzles, the last one from a Gal-Pal of Fran was a Liberty Wooden Puzzle.  What fun!  Intricate whimsical pieces laser cut into 1/4” maple plywood.

.

For Christmas daughter K gave us 3 months of puzzle rentals from Completing The Puzzle.

I returned our 2nd puzzle today and should receive another next week.  I expect 3 months will not be enough for 'back to normal' returns, but what a great idea!

This stay-at-home is so boring I’ve run out of weeds to pull in the garden!  I’m thinking it’s time for another violation!

Stay Safe!

  1. Wonderful pictures of such a great area. I really miss stopping there this year. Next year? I've never heard of renting puzzles, is it "a thing"?

    1. I hope our next 'violation' will be a few days in BS, hope you are still there. I had not heard of renting puzzles either, but I like the idea.

  2. Glad you two got out of the house on such a beautiful day. Someone had a great idea of renting out puzzles since very few complete puzzles more than once. I'm certainly glad to be in lockdown in the desert. 😀

    1. Renting puzzles is indeed a clever business plan. It's working so far. We're getting cabin fever as things are now! ARG!

  4. We were so disappointed to cancel our two weeks in Mission Bay. We love parking right by the bay in the resort to watch the beautiful sunsets. I was so looking forward to riding bikes to all the various beaches. But with CA changing its regulations so often and the SD beaches were crowded before the virus, we knew it wasn't smart to visit right now. Next year we hope! Love the idea of renting puzzles. I just spent $43 buying three new 1000 piece puzzles. This rental puzzle is a great idea. I have over 50 puzzles stored now. Since I have the perfect oversized island to puzzle, I don't see myself stopping even after the virus. I like having a puzzle out and ready to be workied on. I just checked out the rental place. Thanks for sharing!

    1. With fewer cars and less pollution the sunsets have been spectacular, and the 'Green Flash' is more frequent.
Renting puzzles is a clever work-from-home business, but we find ourselves rushing thru one in order to return it for the next. Once we use up the gift card I doubt we will continue.

  5. We'll all be so glad when these Lock-Downs are over.
Nice to get out for Bike Rides and have puzzles to fill your time.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. It just feels so good to be outside and a bike ride feels more Covid-safe than walking.
Yes the puzzles do help fill the time.

  6. I keep waiting for the weather to go south as I understand it often does in January, but it's been wonderful! I guess some rain would be beneficial, but on a day to day basis, I am not complaining. We've been waiting to head over to Coronado, hoping things open up, but it doesn't look like that will be happening very soon, so we may just have to do what you did and make the best of it. I'm glad you guys had a good time!

    1. The entire southwest needs the rain!, but you're right this has been a terrific January ... except for this pesky lockdown
BtW - have you been watching the Osprey kiddos? They're getting pretty big. Just past the Gotch foot/bike bridge the are in the lights at MBHS.
