I have not posted in awhile so I’ll do a bit of odds’n’ends here.
At some point I did a minor blow to my Achilles Tendon, so hiking is on hold for a bit. ARGH!
What’s New:
Niece J with her kids (B and A) came for a week, staying with her mom (Fran’s sister).
The kids are taking tennis lessons. So one day Fran reserved a court at PB Tennis Club for a couple hours of practice.
Fran with A:
Hey mom that’s a crappy follow thru!
I missed the picture but B shows how it’s done.
A shows off her awesome bounce serve.
We also found a new purpose for the tennis bag holders. They are spaced perfectly to also hold the tennis racquets. Fran says she has only seen bags hung there before.
The gang - B, grandma, mom, A:
With the opening of Mission Bay (all swimming, playgrounds, etc. are now open) we spent an afternoon there. Fran's SUP turned out to be a major HIT! Who’da thunk so much fun would be had trying to stand up on wobbly floaty thing.
Anxious kids, while Fran tries to instruct the starting position.
They figured it out in no time.
As they went further out into DeAnza Cove, the Boogie Board was added as a life raft. The kids are better swimmers than any of the adults watching them.
Neither A nor her mother (nor I for that matter) are fans of chocolate. But a long day under the sun deserves an ice cold treat … Strawberry Bars! Whoot Whoot !!!
What you need to know:
Way back in March/April San Diego set up ‘safe zones’. Areas where those without shelter/homes could hunker down in a Covid free zone. The Convention Center for those without a personal shelter, or the old Chargers Stadium (QUALCOMM) for those who were self contained.
Qualcomm was sold to the state college system to become San Diego State West. And the many (100+) residents were forced out. Mission Bay became their new destination!
Mission Bay is mentioned on various posts, including the iOverlander website, as THE place to stay for the heat wave or all winter!
Well not so much anymore. The City announced the enforcement of parking restrictions would begin 10/1.
Look at those many parked on East Mission Bay Drive (taken on 10/2), on the street, some with their slides extended into the street.
Violators are now receiving parking tickets! Yikes it’s $112.50 per ticket!, more than one ticket can be issued, one per day of violation.
So much for the ‘grace’ period, but it was a generous 6 month period. Now that the LTVA, NF, BLM, County and State Parks are all open, I would agree it’s time to pay for prime beach access. or move on.
Another fun experience I had with a young military family who rented a blowup aquatic trampoline. The pump was AC only! and we had the pleasure of letting them use Rufus to inflate this massive tube!
we had a very fun week, I hope you did too.
LAVE SUS MANOS!
Hey,
ReplyDeleteSo are people allowed to park in those spots at all anymore (for a limited time?), or they are trying to clear them out entirely? Every time we've visited MB (pre-covid), there have been a number of RVs in that park. We were never sure if they were allowed to be there or not, but it certainly seemed like folks were living there long term.
Glad to hear you had a fun time with family. Those SUP boards are TONS of fun. Easier than expected but also harder than expected.
LOL - the city is not consistent, each parking lot may have different hours. My pics are from East Mission Bay where the parking lots are closed between 2-4AM, and there is 'NO OVERNIGHT' parking for RVs on the city streets. (try to define 'overnight' ...) Alas the local enforcement is spotty, and there are more important priorities between 2-4AM !!!
DeleteFor sure the SUP has been enjoyed!
It would take a while to inflate that trampoline.
ReplyDeleteFor sure! I had to start the generator and it took about 20 minutes! The generator needed the exercise anyway :) All nice military families and I was ok helping to make the day for the kids
DeleteI sure many of local residents are happy about this enforcement, maybe not so for those living in their RV's...
ReplyDeleteI am quite happy with it! Wish it was more consistent as these guests park their RV, bus, trailer, etc. in the prime areas for extended periods of time at the expenses of taxpayer who then is deprived of using the park.
DeleteGlad to hear from you Jeff. Sorry about your injury, how long before you're back in action? The Mission Bay "stealth" campers is a difficult problem to solve, they've been there as long as we've been going to the area. I don't know what the answer is.
ReplyDeleteSmall pleasures - SUP boards and strawberry bars!
Thanks Suzi - tendons take a while, but I can still wobble around.
DeleteThe kids are a lot of fun, glad we were able to share them for a few hours.
How fortunate to get out with family. Looks like all had a good time. Sorry to hear of your injury. I don't quite get the new wave of RV livers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gaelyn. So much on the Internet of beautiful people parked in beautiful spots, the new generation of RVers seem to not appreciate how frail that environment is and the cost of keeping it open.
