Quinault–Olympic National Park

The little town of the Quinault Indian Nation in the Olympic National Forest is home to 3 Forest Serivce Campgrounds on the south shore of Lake Quinault and a private W/E (30 amp)campground.

And the 5-star world famous Quinault Lodge.

But our draw is the Quinault National Recreation Trail System.

These are great well maintained trails that can be combined into a loops from 0.5 miles to nearly 10 miles.  Our day involved the Rain Forest Nature Trail, combined with the Cedar Bog Trail,

and the Cascade Falls Trail.

The return was along the Lake Shore Trail via the Quinault Lodge.  At various points along the trails we enjoyed a bounty of blackberries, salmon berries and huckleberries.

BTW our favorite is the scarlet red thimbleberry:

Quinault is also home to the World’s Largest Spruce tree.

The small town has a single gas station that also provides diesel and propane, nice laundry with showers, and a little museum that was closed during our visit.  We definitely want to come back to this charming area to explore more, but for now our time is up and must get on to the family gathering in Cape Disappointment.
